The single best hip flexor exercise you can do if you want to stretch things is to stretch out one leg while kneeling down on the opposite knee. The leg being stretched needs to have a ninety degree angle. The foot on that leg needs to be completely flat on the floor before you can truly be ready to stretch. Very slowly lean forward toward the front and this will stretch out the hip flexor muscles. Then, as slowly and carefully as you can, repeat the stretch on your other side.
